Beach re-nourishment / Post Irma projects

Submitted by atalaya on Sun, 09/24/2017 - 10:30

Our beach access steps are completed and back in use, as well as our outdoor pool fence is re-constructed with heavier material than before. All this was performed by our deck contractor in a matter of a couple of days from start to finish.

The beach is full again for now with the re-nourishment. It took the contractor two days to complete the beach in front of the Resort. The next plan is County coming through and rebuilding the berms as they did after Matthew. Don't forget hurricane season ends November 30th so we have a ways to go yet.

The findings were four units that required very little attention by FSA. They were 502, 805, 1502, 1602. There were air movers and dehumidifiers at Living room sliders as well as owners closets. Closet were emptied and then put back after two days of equipment usage.

Fence at the outdoor pool that was knocked down is under re-construction, and should be completed by the weekend of September 23rd.

Post Storm Inspections 9-12-2017

Submitted by atalaya on Tue, 09/12/2017 - 21:20

Our post storm inspections were good in findings. We found some units with very little moisture at the sliders, and we are having FSA here tomorrow to qualify. We also had the elevator company here to inspect the cars for any moisture that might have gotten on top of the cars. The deck contractor was here to put final thought s together on the deck construction and will begin the material order tomorrow in hopes to have it here next week.

We were fortunate to not have Florida type damage, but we did sustain some. The sand that was piled up at the Resort after Matthew is gone leaving the rocks only with no access to the north that we had through out the year. Our temporary steps that were built onto the actual access deck are gone. Contractors have been called, and will be here today to get back what we had to then move forward with the deck re-build. We will also have the deck itself inspected for integrity.

Hurricanes Irma / Jose 9-11-2017

Submitted by atalaya on Mon, 09/11/2017 - 11:45

Today appears to be the most impact we will feel according to tracking. We are scheduled for 35-45 mph winds from late morning until this evening.  Some storm surge is expected, but not any where nearly as bad as Matthew, but high tide will bring localized flooding as with normal rain events with 1 - 3 inches. We will not move any items back into place on the ground level until after the effects have past. Then we will keep watch on Jose that is scheduled to make some kind of move by weeks end. We continue to be vigilant until all has past.

Hurricane Update ( Irma and Hose ) 9-10-2017

Submitted by atalaya on Sun, 09/10/2017 - 11:06

We are still in preparation mode for Tropical effects from Irma. As of 7am it has not made landfall into Florida, therefore the effects to us will be felt through Tuesday AM. Then until it goes through Florida and makes the turn west we are not out of the woods entirely.

Then there is Jose wondering around out in the Atlantic not really knowing what it wants to do. Both storm are category 4 storms, so we can't leave our guard down. This is a very active season this year, and today is the official peak of Hurricane season.

Hurricane Irma Update 9-9-2017

Submitted by atalaya on Sat, 09/09/2017 - 11:59

It appears that the Gov of SC has NOT declared a mandatory evacuation, therefore we are accepting arrivals today if you choose. Be aware that we are expected to start receiving outer bands of Tropical Force winds from Irma starting tomorrow of 30-40 MPH. Monday will be windy with rain 1-3 inches. Storm surge of 1-3 feet are expected through Tuesday with those winds. We ask that if you arrive please leave balcony furniture inside until after Tuesday when winds subside. If you do come PLEASE be cautious with outside activity due to the winds and rain until it passes.

Hurricane Irma update 9-8-2017

Submitted by atalaya on Fri, 09/08/2017 - 11:35

Today we will be pulling furniture off balconies into units. We will also have contractors here to help with preparation helping to clear office as well as remaining ground floor areas that were affected last year.  If you are planning to arrive tomorrow you may run into lanes being turned out of the State if the Gov. of SC declares mandatory evacuation. Therefore we are encouraging to hold off on traveling into Atalaya or even the Myrtle Beach, Garden City areas until after the weekend. Sunday is the day the critical turn of the storm will be made into Florida.

Hurricane IRMA

Submitted by atalaya on Thu, 09/07/2017 - 11:31

We are in preparation mode for the arrival of Hurricane Irma. We have reached out to the contractors that were here last year for clean-up from Matthew, and hope to achieve clean-up as quickly as last year. IF you are planning to come to Atalaya this weekend it is advisable to wait until after the storm due to very possible mandatory evacuation.

If mandatory evacuation is ordered then personnel here at Atalaya are responsible for the property only. If you remain we can not be responsible for your safety. Websites to review are:

Permit For Oceanfront Deck

Submitted by atalaya on Tue, 09/05/2017 - 11:37

As of the 1st of September we had in our possession the permit for our oceanfront deck. The deck was approved as designed based on previous size minus 10 feet on North and South side of deck from set back lines. We have filed for a variance for the review and hopefully approval to then add to the permitted deck.

We have decided to wait until peak of hurricane season past to drop material and begin construction. Project is projected to take 6 to 8 weeks weather permitting.
